Amazon to introduce payment option for ad-free streaming or watch ads
Following an announcement earlier this year, Amazon will reportedly begin accepting ads on its Prime Video streaming service across all of its movies and TV shows starting January 29, 2024. But to avoid them entirely, users can pay an extra $2.99, as first reported by The Verge.
These ads will be “limited” in nature, and the company says its implementation will allow it to continue investing in creating quality content for its viewers.
Initially, these ads would also end up on Amazon Prime Video customers in the US, UK, Germany and Canada, but are expected to spread to users in countries such as Australia, Italy, Spain and other countries. But there is no word on whether the same would be introduced in India as well.
“Our goal is to have significantly fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required of you and the current price of your Prime membership will not change,” Amazon said in an email to subscribers.
In the US, users will now have to pay a little over $18 a month for Amazon Prime if they want to experience Prime Video ad-free after the price jump.
In India, Amazon Prime costs Rs 1,499 per year or they can choose to pay Rs 299 per month. This includes access to the Prime feature on Amazon, Prime Video, Amazon Music and more. Additionally, there is another tier called Amazon Prime Lite which costs Rs 799 per month.
